Money Down the Drain

I dreamt that I was standing by a sink full of water and holding a glass with a goldfish. As the sink water was draining, the goldfish jumped into the sink. I immediately put my hand down over the drain to try to catch the fish, and then I pulled the stopper by the faucet with my free hand.

When she saw it, she said, "Jeannie [her friend] would love one like it." I told her to that I would need one of Jeannie's old comforters to make one for her.

I was on a college campus walking with friends back to someone's dorm. When we got inside there was a large crowed of people. We pushed through towards the room when I overheard what part of what was going on. A sorority and a frat were working together for an event. As we just got through the crowd, I heard the rest. The new sorority pledges were supposed to meet at the school's large fountain and swallow three birth control pills with the fountain water - which would supposedly be cleaned up for the event. Someone was carrying a poster announcing the event. I was annoyed by the whole thing and said that taking three pills was stupid. Of course, the group argued back. A weird guy was standing around asking questions. One lady who seemed to be in charge from the sorority's side told someone by her to make sure there was security while pointing at me. I said, "Nothing I said could even be misconstrued as a threat, unless you find someone disagreeing with you threatening. It is stupid to take that many pills. It won't make the girls hyper-resistant to getting pregnant, if that's what you want for other plans later that night - sponsored by the frat, of course. Those events should be listed on that poster, too." This only made them angrier and louder, and I saw the weird guy asking more questions and writing down their answers. I didn't want to be interviewed, so I turned around and slinked up the stairs. He started following me, so I just turned down the wrong hall into an empty study. He appeared through the door. and I complained that he was harassing me. He ignored my complaint and read back a quote - "Taking three pills is gambly." I said, " I didn't say that, and if you use it I'll sue you just for saying that I said 'gambly'."

My brother and I were outside watching a kiddie talent show. The usual talents were showcased, and then a set of quadruplets came out on stage. While we waited to see what talent they would exhibit, they merely stood in a line and smiled. It was soon apparent that their only "talent" was being a set of quadruplets. My brother and I were in the front row, and we immediately started booing. He yelled out, "1-2-3-4, We don't want you anymore!" and "Get off the stage!" We kept on booing until their mother came up on stage to lead them off.

Veronica Mars and a bazooka

I was out in the woods with a group of people, and we were running to get a away from a man. We would ran into a cabin, and I told everyone to make sure all the lights were turned out. I peeked through a window, and I could make out his shadow kneeling down on one knee. I knew he was shooting at us, and I yelled for everyone to leave the cabin as I ran towards the back. I could see the orange glow of the bazooka's shot as it got closer. We make it out of the cabin and ran as fast as we could through the woods. Suddenly we ran out onto a suburb division. I started to run the yards and hop fences like the others, but I was getting tired quickly. So I ran instead on the sidewalks in the same general direction. The running then felt good, and I felt as if I could run forever. I soon came across a picnic table that all of the people were sitting around. I went towards them and tried to convince them to keep running. I was afraid the man was going to catch up, but they seemed unconcerned.

I then found myself in high school. I was Veronica Mars, and Logan (another character) was there with me along with several people from nursing school. I was going around making plans to sabotage generic school functions. (I don't really remember these.) In the meantime, I was very interested in Logan and was trying to get closer to him.

A song and a Quiz

I was in a nursing class filled with people from high school. The professor was my current clinical instructor, and the assignment was to sing a song in front of the class. A currently pregnant friend was sitting next to me and showing pictures of her twin babies. (She's actually having a little girl.) The teacher stepped out of the room just before my turn. The music started when I got in front of the class. (It was a song my mom has sung many times as a special for church.) I couldn't remember the words to the song. The class laughed, but it was friendly. Someone suggested I catch up on the chorus, but even then I couldn't come up with the words. An Asian guy in the front laughed again and said I could always stay up there dressed like that. (I had on a short skirt.) The song was finally over, and I sat back down after changing into jeans. The professor came back in and told us we had to take a quiz over our songs. I had to borrow paper and a pen from a girl who was sharing a seat with me. (She's also in one of my groups at school.)

Old school

I first dreamed that I was late for a clinical at the hospital. I woke up at 2p, and that was when my clinical was supposed to start. I got there as fast as I could only to discover that I wasn't late after all. It wasn't starting until the next day. In the hospital, I kept running into people I'd gone to high school with. Some faces that I remember: Travis, Ashley, Tammy, Candice, Christina... At one point I was going back to my car when Ashley joined me in the walk. We ran into some guys, and that's when I woke up.

Surprise knits

A friend and I were planning a surprise for a teacher. We were trying to gather all the students to the auditorium. Each had a knit item which would be given to the teacher. Most were lacy shawls or knit blocks to be pieced together later as a blanket.

We stood in the hallway and tried to hurry along a few of the slower students. One in particular was lagging behind because she was waiting for a friend. I told her to go on and save a seat. When she finally started towards the auditorium, I turned to my friend and laughed at how silly we were as children - thinking that we couldn't go anywhere without someone by our side.

Here comes the bride...

I was in a building with a lot of people when I go to the bathroom to freshen up. All of a sudden I realize that I'm actually getting ready for my wedding. I'm doing my own hair and makeup, and I'm frustrated with the results. A woman comes in who I think is going to help me, but she's just there to get ready herself. I start to get a little anxious as I realize that I'm already running late, but my hair is getting frizzier and frizzier. I originally put it up in a pony tail, but when I look in the mirror I see that my hair is down and I have bangs. The crowd is getting restless. There is now a window between me and them. I can see that most have turned around in their seats and are watching me. I also recognize the room as my grandparent's church. I find some hair serum and run it through my hair. I then give up and head to the door where everyone is looking at me. My mom whispers for me to go to the back to meet my father. I say something about that's what a wedding planner is for. I'm embarrassed already at how my wedding is turning out, and I have no bridesmaids.

At this point I'm starting to wake up, but I want to know who the groom is - so I try to fall back into my dream.

I meet my father, and he prays over me before we begin.

I wake up again, and I never saw who the groom was.

A bird in the hand...

I found a finch flying around in my house. After chasing it around for several minutes, I finally caught it. I took it to the front door and let it go. I could immediately see that it was not flying very well, and the other finches started messing with it. I opened the screen door, and the finch flew back to me. I went back to the kitchen, where my dad took the bird from me and examined it. He pulled the wings away from the body, and the tip of the right wing came off. I grabbed it back, and my dad found where it must have gotten in. Over the kitchen sink was a hole in the ceiling, and it was lined with jagged bits of glass. I started looking for a birdcage. I knew I had an old one somewhere, but I couldn't find it and no one knew where it was. I went out to the front yard. On the magnolia tree were several birdcages. All but one had birds. I went to the empty cage and placed the hurt finch inside.

Someone was holding two large snakes as they thrashed around. They dropped them, and the snakes headed towards me. I managed to grab them and hold them away from me. Suddenly, they both bit me on my right forearm. I dropped them, and they slithered away.

Fat camp

I was home when I found a large bowl of candy: Starbursts, Tootsie Rolls, 3 Musketeers, Milky Ways, M&Ms... All the good stuff. I sat down on the couch to start snacking while watching TV. A commercial came on for a fat camp for kids. I was watching them run all around the playground when I recognized the location as our local elementary school. I hid the candy behind my back and called my youngest brother to come see it. "Look! It's **** Elementary."

Suddenly, I was laying on my front porch overlooking the playground and kids. Two young boys came up to me, and I was talking to them. My brother came out and then went back inside only to come back out dressed as a policeman. I laughed and asked, "You went inside to get into your police costume?" He ignored me and told the kids to ask me what I was hiding behind my back.

Hellooooo Nurse!

I went to my brother's room and saw his legs. They were grossly swollen, red, and scaly. I bent down and made him let me examine them. I told him it looked like he had cellulitis and that he needed to go to the doctor now. He refused, saying he had to go see his fiance. I asked why he was going to meet this girl when he needed to go to the doctor. He got angry and started carrying on about how our family doesn't give her a chance. He mentions in passing that she's 31 years old (he's 22), and I mutter under my breath, "No wonder she's in such a hurry."

My mom has an IV that needs to be taken out. I tell her I'll do it and grab some paper towels to use as gauze. She looks at me uncertainly and says, "Maybe you should get someone." I'm slightly offended as I've done it a million times and that it is easy to take an IV out. Her IV was placed on her nose, and I untape it and place the paper towel over the IV site before pulling out the little catheter. Even though I'm holding pressure, the site bleeds profusely and blood is getting everywhere. It finally stops, and I let go of her nose. I get some moisturizer, and she asks for some. I ask her why did the other nurse put the IV in her nose, and my mom says it's because it's the best spot. I disagree and begin pointing out all the better sites on my arm.

I was hanging out at home with several friends at my house. The house was a mess - bare rooms and stripped walls. I told my friends that we were remodeling to cover the truth that it always looked like this. One of the guys, a friend from nursing school that I crushed on, asked me to go out with them later that night. I asked where they were going before hesitantly saying yes. I then had to go shopping because I had nothing to wear. I went to the mall and went into store after store, but I couldn't find anything. Suddenly a group of guys with guns were chasing me, and I ducked around a corner to hide from them. When I looked back, I saw an old woman threatening a younger woman.

I was ran into a college friend at Wal-mart. When I saw her, she was dressed in a beautiful gown. I had on a pair of pants and a red fur stole with nothing underneath. She was on her way to get her hair done at Wal-mart's hair salon, and she invited me to come along. I went thinking that perhaps I could at least get my hair done nice. We went inside, but there was no stylist available for me. My brother, sister, and her boyfriend were sitting inside. They made fun of my clothes. I decided to look for a dress there for the formal since all the people I knew from high school would be there. At least I could be dressed nicely. While walking through the store I would pass cheerleading and wrestling exhibitions put on by kids in black uniforms. I didn't find any dress that I liked. My mom showed up and tried to help me look, but she kept pulling out these old lady dresses and pastel, flowery prints. I said that I didn't want to be that person that everybody was going to laugh at. I was close to tears, and she asked me why I cared so much what I looked like to these people since I wasn't going to live there. I said that I didn't know where I was going to live, and that maybe I would be living there. She said, "Well, they're just going to be living next to you." We headed back toward the salon, and my mom started singing "I'll Be Home for Christmas" in a funny, Kermit voice. A guy standing nearby laughed, and I wiped a tear from cheek.

Suddenly time flashed forward, and it was the future. We were still sitting around playing the board game, only now it was called Nomad. This was because the lamp post, the objective, no long stayed in the middle but would appear randomly around the board. Strategy was eliminated. Instead of trying to get my piece to the middle, I just wandered around the board. While talking with my family, I realized that I was still working as an aide. I was also surprised to find out that Mark Ruffalo was still working as an aide, too. My mom wanted me to go to the store to get some drinks, but I was nervous. The store was underwater, and I would have to hold my breath.

(TV makes an appearance in my dream: I had just watched Mark Ruffalo on The Actors Studio, and Nomad was a character's screen name in a movie.)

I think that I am afraid of being in the same place even just a year from now. I've been looking for a new job, and I expect to move out for good when I graduate.

As far as working something out with my mom, we've argued about one thing lately. I want to take my little brother to the premiere of Spiderman 3, and she's set against it. I took him for Spiderman 2, and there were no problems then. I'm not sure why she's decided to dig her heels in this time.

On the Run

I had several different dreams last night. The details are very fuzzy. They feel related to me, but I'm not sure when exactly each morphed into the next.

There was an earlier scene involving a supermarket and candy, but I don't remember anything except trying to hide from someone who wanted to hurt me.

I was standing in my front yard. A police car had crashed in our garage, but I knew it wasn't the police coming after us. My mom was in the back of the garage, and I was motioning her to come around the car. She did and was making her way up the steps into the house when the car backed up and came our way.

I was in an auditorium with my family to receive an award. I was uneasy, because I knew someone was looking for me. We split up into two aisles to find some seats. Everyone else sat down together, but my mom went up one more row before sitting down. I tried to convince her to sit by the rest, but she was stubborn. As I walked through the row to sit down, a man I knew acknowledge me and patted me on the back. His fingers got caught in my hair and pulled it as I continued walking away from him. I noticed another friend in the audience, a guy I knew from college. I was nervous to see him.

I was not myself, but a teenage boy. Someone was out there trying to kill me and the people I knew. I had found a friend unconscious. Not knowing what else to do, I laid her down in a bathtub and pulled the curtain. I started to head back outside, but someone took a shot at me. I ducked back inside and waited for him to come to me. He did, and I knocked him out. I decided to try going through the opposite doors, but I could see a group of several boys in grey hoodies running around. I ran back again through the first doors and around the building to a courtyard. I could see the boys were heading toward the gate. I raced them to the entrance. They started to come through before I got there, and I was fighting them off one by one. All the while I'm talking and trying to convince them in a light manner to let me live just a little bit longer. I wanted to stay with them and follow them to their leader. This man had sniped a man I knew in the back of his head, and I had seen the whole thing.

In every dream I was on edge and running for my life. The last felt like a video game.

Running is an instinctive response to physical threats in our environment. Often in these dream scenarios, you are being pursued by some attacker, who wants to hurt or possibly kill you. You are running away, hiding, or trying to outwit your pursuer. Chase dreams may represent your way of coping with fears, stress or various situations in your waking life. Instead of confronting the situation, you are running away and avoiding it.�Ask yourself who is the one chasing you and you may gain some understanding and insight on the source of your fears and pressure.

The pursuer or attacker who is chasing you in your dream may also represent a part of yourself. Your own feelings of anger, jealousy, fear, and possibly love, can assume the appearance of threatening figure. You may be projecting these feelings onto the unknown chaser. Next time you have a chase dream, turn around and confront your pursuer. Ask them why they are chasing you.
